Rail Budget 2012-13: Trying to increase train speeds to 160 kmph, says Dinesh Trivedi

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister, Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday said that the government is attempting to increase train speeds to 160 kmph. He said while presenting the Railway Budget that the journey time from New Delhi to Kolkata can be brought down to 14 hours from 17 hours currently.



He said that the focus during next five years is on five areas: tracks, bridges, signalling, rolling stock and stations

Trivedi announced the introduction of 75 new express trains, 21 new passenger trains and 75 new services in Mumbai suburban system.

He said that eighty-five new line projects will be taken up during 2012-13 and 114 new line surveys will be undertaken during 2012-13.
