Rail Budget 2012-13: 85 new line projects to be taken up during 2012-13

Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday said that the government was planning 85 new line projects during 2012-13.

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday said that the government was planning 85 new line projects during 2012-13. During his Railway Budget presentation in the Lok Sabha, he said 114 new line surveys would be undertaken during 2012-13.



The new line projects would get a total allocation of Rs 6,870 crore in 2012-13. Trivedi said that gauge conversion would be undertaken over 800 km with an allocation of Rs 1,950 crore.

The government also plans electrification of over 6,500 km at an allocation of Rs 8,000 crore during the 12th Plan.

Commenting on the Mumbai suburban rail system, Trivedi said, "Conversion from DC to AC power supply was completed in the Western Railway corridor. Conversion of Central Railway corridor to be completed in 2012-13."

The Railway Minister said that 31 projects of over 5,000 km were being implemented with state govenments sharing costs.
