Now, Indian Railways transports chocolates in AC coaches

It's a nice way to use idle air conditioned coaches. The South Western Railway is using them to transport chocolates and some other food products.

Chocolates and noodles weighing 163 tonnes were loaded in 18 air-conditioned coaches from Vasco Da Gama in Goa last weekend. This was the consignment of AVG Logistics. This AC Parcel Express train is expected to reach Delhi on Saturday, covering a distance of 2115 Km.

But why air conditioned coaches? That's because food stuff like chocolates need a low and controlled temperature during the transit. Otherwise they go bad.

This has fetched a revenue of Rs 12.83 Lakhs to the railways.

Earlier these things were transported by road. But one innovative idea by the Hubbali division allowed the Indian Railways to capture this traffic stream.
