Northern Railway earnings up by 23 per cent

The Northern Railways earned Rs 14,300 crore in 2012-13 fiscal as against Rs 11,621 crore in 2011-12, registering an increase of 23 per cent.

NEW DELHI: The Northern Railways earned Rs 14,300 crore in 2012-13 fiscal as against Rs 11,621 crore in 2011-12, registering an increase of 23 per cent.

In the freight operations, there has been a growth of 35.22 per cent in revenue earning. It earned Rs 6,348.98 crore in 2012-13 as compared to Rs 4,695.30 crore in 2011-12, a release said.

Despite the heavy fog for nearly two months during the winter which badly affected train operations, northern zone improved its punctuality in mail/express train schedule. The punctuality was 79.4 per cent during 2012-13 as compared to 59.8 per cent in 2011-2012, the release said.
