Northeastern Frontier Railway to construct bio-toilets worth Rs 28 crore

The NFR has installed 1,711 bio toilets in 543 coaches. There are around 3,000 coaches with NFR. It has so far put in Rs 20.53 crore to put up bio-toilets.

GUWAHATI: The Northeastern Frontier Railway ( NFR) said it would invest close to Rs 28 crore for the installation on bio—toilets in trains.

Already, the NFR has installed 1,711 bio toilets in 543 coaches. There are around 3,000 coaches with NFR. It has so far put in Rs 20.53 crore to put up bio-toilets.

“In 2016-17, we are going to put 2,350 bio-toilets. This is done in a phased manner. We are expecting to cover all the coaches by 2019,” NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma said.

Installation of bio-toilets in the trains in the region started in 2012. The bio-toilets were jointly developed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation and the railways.
