NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) has placed an order to Nippon Steel for providing 19,600 tonnes of high-grade rails at a cost of Rs 64 crore for its phase II network expansion.

The deal of export of rails has been channelled through the trader Mitsui & Co.

The shipping of the material will start in October.

The order was placed with Nippon Steel for high grade rails to be used during the second phase of expansion, DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal told PTI.

The deal was worth about Rs 64 crore, he said.

Nippon Steel had secured the contract from Mitsui for supplying the heat treated high strength heavy rails to the Metro. This is Nippon Steel's first involvement in the export of rails to India.
