New Delhi: With Delhi's Air Quality slipping into the 'very poor' category, NCRTC will operate 20 additional train trips on the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor from Wednesday to encourage commuters to use public transport amid rising pollution levels across the National Capital Region.

The additional services will run along the entire corridor between Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Modipuram in Meerut, the NCRTC said in a statement.

The AQI in the national capital recorded in the 'very poor' category with a reading of 350 at 4pm, according to the CPCP Sameer App.

The second stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented in Delhi, while restrictions on the entry of certain categories of vehicles into the national capital also came into effect on November 1.

The NCRTC said the additional services are aimed at encouraging commuters to opt for public transport instead of private vehicles.

The Namo Bharat corridor is integrated with multiple modes of public transport, including the Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, inter-state bus terminals and city bus services at major hubs such as Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, New Ashok Nagar and Ghaziabad.

Parking facilities are also available at Namo Bharat stations, while the Namo Bharat Connect app provides live parking information to help commuters plan their journeys, it stated.

The NCRTC continues to align train operations with commuter requirements and the additional trips are part of efforts to strengthen sustainable public transport in the national capital region, it added.
