NCR Rapid Rail corridor to begin operations in FY23: NCRTC MD Vinay Kumar Singh

The first stage of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will begin operations this financial year and the five stations on this stretch, between Sahibabad and Duhai in Uttar Pradesh, are in advanced stage of construction, said NCRTC MD Vinay Kumar Singh, reports Twesh Mishra. Singh told ET that there will be no cost escalation since tenders for supply of materials were finalised during the Covid pandemic.

"Construction work on this corridor is going on in full swing. The 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai is targeted to be commissioned by 2022-23 end and the full corridor by 2025." The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is being built at an estimated cost of ₹30,274 crore. According to internal estimates, the corridor will have a daily ridership of 800,000 passengers. "More than 1,500 piers have been erected in the elevated section as well as 20 km of RRTS viaduct has been constructed so far," said Singh.
