Mumbai, The Maharashtra cabinet's sub-committee on infrastructure has approved a proposal to extend the Phase-II North Corridor of the Nagpur Metro from Kanhan River to Kanhan town.

The estimated cost of the 1.4 km elevated corridor is Rs 310.35 crore, an official release said.

The proposal, prepared by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro), was approved by the infrastructure committee headed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday, it said.

The extension will have an elevated station at Kanhan town.

The town has a population of around 35,000, with an estimated 5,000-6,000 people commuting daily to and from Nagpur, the proposal noted.

The extension is expected to improve connectivity not only to Kanhan but also to Ramtek, Tekdi, Kandri Mines, Nagardhan, Gondegaon Mines and the Mauda Super Thermal Power Project.
