Mumbai-Howrah Mail Train Accident: India woke up to another incident of a fatal train accident as 18 coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed near Chakradharpur, between Rajkharswan West Outer and Barabamboo in Jharkhand, on Tuesday morning. The incident has resulted in the cancellation of multiple trains on alternate routes.

As of now, at least two individuals have lost their lives and 20 others have sustained injuries after 18 coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail train derailed. The casualties were confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum, who also mentioned that rescue efforts are currently in progress to aid those impacted.


The derailment took place at 3.45 AM near Badabamboo, approximately 80 km from Jamshedpur, within the Chakradhatpur Division of the South East Railway, as per officials speaking to PTI.

The rescue operation is ongoing, as mentioned by the official.

While rescue operations are on, schedule of several other trains were hit.

Due to the derailment of 12810 Howrah-CSMT Mumbai Mail near Barabamboo station in Chakradharpur Division several trains have been regulated, South Eastern Railway said.

  • 08015/18019 Kharagpur-Jhargram-Dhanbad Express will remain cancelled on 30.07.2024.
  • 12021/12022 Howrah-Barbil-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express will remain cancelled on 30.07.2024.
  • 18109 Tatanagar-Itwari Express will remain cancelled on 30.07.2024.
  • 18030 Shalimar-LTT Express will remain cancelled on 30.07.2024.
Short Termination/Short Origination of Trains:
  • 18114 Bilaspur-Tatanagar Express, journey commenced on 29.07.2024 will be short terminated at Rourkela.
  • 18190 Ernakulam-Tatanagar Express, journey commenced on 28.07.2024 will be short terminated at Chakradharpur. Express, journey commencing on 30.07.2024 will be short terminated at Adra.
  • 18011 Howrah-Chakradharpur
  • 18110 Itwari-Tatanagar Express, journey commencing on 30.07.2024 will be short terminated at Bilaspur.
