Vande Bharat and Shatabdi trains running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad are set to run at 160 kmph from August 15, said a report in TOI.

The Railway Board has directed the Mumbai and Vadodara divisions to finish necessary work by June 30 and to undertake confirmatory oscillograph car runs. COCR is done for increasing train speeds to above 120 kmph.

The project by the Indian Railways aims at increasing speeds of trains on busy routes.

The distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by train is 491 km and currently takes 5 hours 15 minutes by Vande Bharat express and 6 hours 35 minutes by Shatabdi. The increase in speeds will save up to 30 minutes of travel time.
