Metro services across country to resume in a graded manner; face masks mandatory

The government today issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for restarting Metro services under the Unlock 4 guidelines. Frequency of trains will be regulated to avoid passenger crowding at stations and in trains and wearing of face mask will be mandatory, read the directive. 12 Metros across country will start operation initially announced Hardeep Sing Puri.

The SOPs have been finalised following discussions with the managing directors of 15 Metro rail corporations on Tuesday and seeking approval by the Union home ministry.

Adequate dwell time at stations to be provided to enable smooth boarding/deboarding ensuring social distancing. Metro rail corporations may also resort to skipping of stations to ensure proper social distancing added Puri. Only asymptomatic persons will be allowed to travel after thermal screening emphasised the minister.


The guidelines also added that the use of Smart Cards and cashless/online transactions will be encouraged but tokens can be used with proper sanitization.

Under Unlock 4.0, metro trains have been allowed to operate with effect from September 7 in a graded manner.
