Maitree Express to be flagged off on April 14

The Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express will start its operations on April 14, the Bengali New Year's day, as the agreement between India and Bangladesh for running the passenger train services has got its final nod from the Cabinet.

NEW DELHI: The Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express will start its operations on April 14, the Bengali New Year's day, as the agreement between India and Bangladesh for running the passenger train services got its final nod from the Cabinet on Friday.

The agreement will facilitate passenger train operations between India and Bangladesh, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal told reporters here.

April 14, also known as 'Poila Baisakh', is an auspicious day in the Bengali calender.

Sibal said the train service will strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and provide an alternative mode of passenger transport between the two countries.
