Mahamana Express: Know what's special about the train PM Modi flagged off today

The Vadodara-Varanasi Weekly Superfast Mahamana Express train (No 20903) will depart from Vadodara every Wednesday at 7.40 pm and will reach Varanasi at 10.20 pm the next day.

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi today flagged off the Varanasi-Vadodara Mahamana Express from his Lok Sabha constituency as he gifted people another train with plush interiors. There are two Mahamana Express trains in service already, each on Varanasi-New Delhi route and Bhopal-Khajuraho route. Here are the details of the train:

* Once-a-week run: The 1,531-km long journey of the weekly train will take 27 hours and 30 minutes.

* No more acrobatics: Access to upper berths is easy and comfortable with specially designed ladders.



* Better sanitation: Aesthetically appealing toilet fitted with enhanced passenger amenities like a big mirror, platform washbasin, controlled discharged water tap, odour control system, exhaust fan, LED lights and dustbin, to name a few.

* Read without disturbing others: Berth reading lights in sleeper coaches.

* Halts: The train will halt at Bharuch, Surat, Amalner, Bhusaval, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Katni, Satna and Chheoki stations.

* Coaches: The train will have 18 coaches including I AC, II tier AC, Sleeper Class and II Class general coaches.

* More charging ports: Coaches will have more mobile/laptop charging points.

* LED berth indicators: LED-based berth indicators-cum-night lights to assist passengers boarding train at night.

* Fire safety: Provision of fire extinguisher in all coaches.

* Provision of electric chimney in pantry car

* Shifting of electrical junction points from passenger area to non-passenger area in a centralised distribution board for enhanced safety.

* Use of e-beam cables and polyamide conduits for enhanced electrical and fire safety.

* LED Lighting to enhance illumination and service durability with less power consumption.



* Modular panels without visible screws inside passenger area for better safety and aesthetics.

* Superior material for panels in terms of toxicity and fire retardation.

The Vadodara-Varanasi Weekly Superfast Mahamana Express train (No 20903) will depart from Vadodara every Wednesday at 7.40 pm and will reach Varanasi at 10.20 pm the next day.

The returning Varanasi-Vadodara train (No. 20904) will depart from Varanasi every Friday at 6.10 am and will reach Vadodara at 09.40 am the next day.

A lightweight train manufactured by a Spanish firm, it clocked 180kmph during the second phase of high-speed trials between Mathura and Palwal, covering a distance of 86km in just 39 minutes.

In the process, it shattered the record by an Indian train -previously held by Gatimaan Express, at 160kmph.

The light and faster train, with nine coaches and hauled by a 4,500 HP diesel engine, covered the 90-km distance in 70 minutes, officials said. The train, comprising two executive class cars, four chair cars, a cafeteria, a power car and a tail-end coach for staff and equipment, ran continuously at 180 kmph from Bhuteshwar to Rundhi stations, covering the distance in 39 minutes.

The nine-coach Talgo train consists of two Executive Class cars, four Chair Cars, a cafeteria, a power car and a tail-end coach for staff and equipment.

Entertainment: The new train also provides free on-board entertainment by a private provider, MyFreeTv.in.
