Madurai Division earns Rs 268.49 crore in first 4 months of this fiscal
The division witnessed a 16 per cent growth with a loading of 8,30,700 tons this year as against the previous year's loading of 7,40,400 tons.
The division had earned Rs 154.89 crore in passenger traffic as against 133.30 crore last year.
Addressing a press meet, he said freight earnings had also increased to Rs 94.77 crore against Rs 80.82 crore last year.
On freight loading front, the division witnessed a 16 per cent growth with a loading of 8,30,700 tons this year as against the previous year's loading of 7,40,400 tons.
The Divisional Railway manager also pointed out that ticketless travel was on the decrease in the division.
He said the division's earnings from ticket checking have come down to Rs 107 lakh from Rs 117 lakh last year.
He said 50 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines have been installed in 27 stations of the Madurai railway division this year.
Till last week, earnings from these ATVMs alone stood at Rs 83 lakh with around 1000 smart cards being sold so far,he said.
