Kolkata Metro to impose Rs 10 surcharge on special night trains

Kolkata Metro Railway announced on Wednesday that a Rs 10 surcharge will be levied on every ticket for special night services on a trial basis along the New Garia-Dumdum stretch of the Blue Line, starting Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

A Metro spokesperson confirmed to PTI that the special night services will run both ways between Kavi Subhash and Dum Dum at 10:40 pm on weekdays. This step follows poor occupancy rates on these services, introduced a few months ago.

The surcharge, applicable to all special night services operating after regular hours, will be reviewed in the future.


Earlier, on December 3, Metro had planned a similar surcharge for the Dum Dum-New Garia corridor from December 10 but postponed it after backlash from commuters on social media. The new surcharge, effective from January 1, will be the same regardless of the distance traveled.
