Indian Railways' Sleeper Class coaches and General Coaches to be made air-conditioned

In a bid to make long distance travel comfortable for travellers, the Indian Railways has decided to make all coaches of every train air-conditioned.

This includes Sleeper Class coaches, and General Coaches, which have traditionally been non-AC.

The work has already begun at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala where Indian Railways has started converting all non-AC coaches to AC coaches.

As per officials from the Coach Factory, AC Sleeper Class coaches will be a sort of ‘economical’ AC class, which can be categorised between AC-3 and Sleeper class.

While upgrading sleeper and general coach to AC coaches, space is being arranged by moving the electric units rather than squeezing out the usable area of the passengers.

With increased number of berths and coaches, and increased demand for air-conditioned services, the Indian Railways is expecting to make a good profit.
