Indian Railways has revised penalties for several passenger offences under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026.From travelling without a valid ticket to entering women's reserved coaches, misusing railway facilities or even travelling on train roofs and footboards, several penalties have been increased and many offences have shifted from criminal prosecution to a civil penalty and recovery system.
