Indian Railways approves Rs 206 crore Kavach deployment on 680 route km of Northern Railway

Indian Railways has approved the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0, its indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, on 680 route kilometres (RKm) of the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections, including feeder branch lines, under the Delhi Division of Northern Railway.

The project has been approved at a cost of Rs 206 crore, the Ministry of Railways said in a statement on Friday.

According to the ministry, the project is part of Indian Railways' ongoing nationwide rollout of Kavach across high-density and strategically important routes.


Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection system designed to prevent Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and train collisions. The system continuously monitors train movements, automatically applies brakes when required, allows trains to operate at maximum permissible speeds, and supports train operations during adverse weather conditions such as dense fog.

The ministry said the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 on these sections will strengthen safety, improve operational efficiency, enhance the reliability of train operations, and support faster movement of passenger and freight trains.
