India and Pakistan have given a serious thought to increasing mutual cooperation in rail operations during the three-day visit of Pakistani delegation to India.

In his inimitable style Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav impressed upon the sixmember delegation the need for increasing the interchange of freight trains between India and Pakistan in view of the increased trade between the two countries, especially of cement.

He also emphasised on the need for opening up Munabao-Khokhrapar route between India and Pakistan to freight services.

Of the many proposals that came up for discussion include proposals to increase the level of freight interchange between India and Pakistan at Wagah and Attari, running of increased number of freight trains between the two countries, experimenting with running of longer trains, introduction of some 8 wheeler wagons from Pakistan side, and also exploring the possibility of running of container trains.
