India, Japan ink pact for Rs 5,479 crore assistance for Chennai, Ahmedabad metros

The government is continuously making efforts to obtain bilateral and multilateral funding to meet this financial requirement, a statement said.

NEW DELHI: India and Japan have inked an agreement for Rs 5479 crore official development assistance for Chennai and Ahmedabad metros, a financial statement said on Sunday.

Areements were signed by S. Selvakumar, the joint secretary, ministry of finance, Government of India and Yutaka Kikuta, Deputy Chief of Mission of Japan to India here on last Friday.

"Government of India attaches highest importance to infrastructure projects," the statement said.

In this regard, the government is continuously making efforts to obtain bilateral and multilateral funding to meet this financial requirement, it said.
