Hundreds of Loksangram party activists were arrested here on Wednesday.

MALEGAON: Hundreds of Loksangram party activists were arrested here on Wednesday when they staged a rasta roko demanding rail link on the Manmad-Malegaon-Dhule-Indore route, police said.

The agitation, on the Mumbai-Agra national highway, was led by Sunil Gaikwad and Deepak Bhosale. Hundereds of party activists led by the duo were rounded up after they squatted on the highway and blocked the road for three hours, they said.

Shouting slongans, the activists also demanded that 50 per cent of the total expenses for the demanded rail link should be shared by the government.

Besides the highway protest, Loksangram activists staged road blockades at various points from Malegaon to Shirpur and Dhule.
