Haryana government asks Centre to provide more metro links

Metro lines of 25-km-length are under construction including 13.875 kms in Faridabad, 4.875 kms in Bahadurgarh and 6.5 km in Gurgaon.





CHANDIGARH: Haryana government has asked the Centre to provide more metro links to the state which includes metro connectivity between Faridabad to Gurgaon and Dwarka to IFFCO Chowk.

In a communication, the state government has also sought extension of metro from IFFCO Chowk to Sohna road. It also sought extension of metro to Kundli, Sonipat and metro link from YMCA Chowk, Faridabad to Ballabhgarh, said an official release here.

Metro lines of 25-km-length are under construction including 13.875 kms in Faridabad, 4.875 kms in Bahadurgarh and 6.5 km in Gurgaon.

On metro link between Faridabad and Gurgaon, the state government has pointed out that there is a proposal to link Qutub Minar and Badarpur stations by 2021 in Phase IV of Delhi Metro.

Haryana has requested Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu to get the link between Qutub Minar and Badarpur station completed by 2018.

Since the line between Qutub Minar and Badarpur stations will pass through Delhi area, the state has requested that a spur may be planned along this line, which may pass through the inhabited areas of northern Faridabad in Haryana, starting from Surajkund, and connect to an appropriate Metro station located on Delhi-Faridabad route.

About metro link between Sector 21, Dwarka, and IFFCO Chowk and Gurgaon, the state has requested Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) to revise the DPR expeditiously.

This link would not only provide smooth connectivity between Gurgaon city and Dwarka but also to Delhi airport, it said.

On Metro extension from IFFCO Chowk to Sohna road, Gurgaon, in Phase IV of Delhi Metro, Haryana has requested DMRC to prepare the feasibility report.

It will provide direct connectivity to the people living on Sohna road and the surrounding areas with Delhi, it said.

Regarding extension of Metro to Kundli in Sonipat district, Haryana has said that there is a proposal to extend the Rithala-Bawana Metro line to Narela in Phase-IV of Delhi Metro.

The state has requested DMRC to prepare feasibility report to further extend it to Kundli, so that the project is implemented in Phase-IV of Delhi Metro. It will provide direct connectivity with Delhi to the thickly populated areas of Kundli, it said.

On metro link from YMCA Chowk, Faridabad, to Ballabhgarh, the government has said that the Central Government has already approved the project and allowed DMRC to go ahead with the construction of the project in anticipation of sanction.

At present, Metro lines of more than 12 kms are operational in Gurgaon which is well connected with Delhi.

A Mobile Ticketing System was inaugurated for Mumbai Suburban tickets at Dadar station on December 27, 2014. Initially this system has been launched at Dadar station only.

It will be implemented at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Kurla, Thane and Kalyan soon and thereafter at other stations in a phased manner. One can download the free application for Android/Windows to avail this facility. Application for iPhone and Blackberry will be available soon.

How it works: A user has to open the application and sign up by giving details like name, mobile number and city, after which a one-time password is sent through SMS. On entering the OTP, the user is registered and an 'R-wallet' with zero balance is created.

At the journey originating station, the user has to go to an Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) and select Print Mobile Ticket option, enter the mobile number and booking ID to get a printed ticket.

In another landmark engineering marvel, Indian Railways completed Udhampur-Katra Broad gauge line in Jammu & Kashmir. Four train services up to Katra commenced from July 2014. These are: New Delhi- Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express, Pathankot-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra DMU and two DMUs between Jammu Tawi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.

A trial of e-catering service in trains has been started by the Indian Railways. IRCTC has been entrusted with the job of implementation of this service.

IRCTC on a trial basis has started e-catering services on a few trains on Delhi-Amritsar section since September 2014. With the help of this service, a passenger is able to place an order for a meal, to be served at his seat in the train, through a phone call or an SMS.

Booking rail tickets through the IRCTC website is going to be hassle-free for now. The new e-ticketing system developed by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) would allow booking of 7200 tickets per minute against 2000 tickets through the existing system.

Some of the salient features of the new IT initiatives/applications are; Next Generation e-ticketing (NGeT); NGet system which can book 7200 online tickets instead of 2000 tickets per minute, attending 2,00,000 enquiries instead of 50000 per minute.
