Fire breaks out in pantry car of empty Mumbai-Howrah train rake at CSMT

Mumbai: A fire broke out in the pantry car of an empty rake of a Mumbai-Howrah train at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) yard here early on Wednesday, an official said.

No casualties were reported, a Central Railway spokesperson said.

The blaze erupted in the train's pantry car at 3.40 am. The fire brigade was immediately alerted and reached the spot at 4.01 am. The blaze was completely extinguished by 4.05 am, the spokesperson said.


"The rake was empty, and no passenger was present or injured in the incident," he said.

CSMT in south Mumbai is one of the city's major railway terminals and serves as the originating point for several long-distance and local train services.
