Ex-NASSCOM chief Som Mittal to head Railways' IT vision panel

The council will assist in developing a comprehensive ICT Vision for the public transporter which is in line with the overall vision and objectives outlined for Railways.

NEW DELHI: In order to set up a technology portal to provide innovative solutions for rail specific issues, Railways has decided to constitute an advisory council under the chairmanship of former NASSCOM president Som Mittal.

The council will prepare Information Technology (IT) vision for Railways, said a release.

Headed by Mittal, the council will have 11 more members comprising senior railway officials and IT experts.

The council will assist in developing a comprehensive ICT Vision for the public transporter which is in line with the overall vision and objectives outlined for Railways.

The ICT Vision will cover Information Technology, Communication and Telecom as well as Geospatial aspects.

The other members of the Advisory Council include Narendra Karmakar, ex-professor and expert in Super Computing, M P Jaiswal, Dean and Professor, Information Management, MDI, Gurgaon, Rajesh Mathur, Vice-President, Association of Geospatial Industries, P G Diwakar, DDG, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).

The current ICT implementation is to be reviewed and integrated into the new vision.
