Eleven trains to be introduced by Southern Railway

To meet the increasing rush of passengers, eleven trains, including two 'Garib Rath Express', will be introduced by the Southern Railway (SR) next month.

CHENNAI: To meet the increasing rush of passengers, eleven trains, including two 'Garib Rath Express', will be introduced by the Southern Railway (SR) next month.

Apart from the new trains, the Southern Railway has decided to speed up six trains, extend services of five trains and increase frequency of the Rajdhani Express running between Thiruvanathapuram and New Delhi stations, according to Minister of State for Railways R Velu.

He was talking to reporters after releasing the new time-table of the Southern Railway here yesterday. Velu said out of the 52 trains to be introduced this year in the country, the Southern Railway bagged 12.

The new trains would cater to the increasing number of passengers in various routes, he said. On the city's Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) running between Velacherry and Beach stations, he said the Southern Railway earned a revenue of Rs nine crore per month.
