Eastern Railways inducts two women loco drivers ahead of International Women's Day

"A large number of women employees in strategic positions are doing exceptionally well helping Railways in smooth operations with their dedicated services," ER said.

KOLKATA: Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, Eastern Railway (ER) announced that Moumita Adhikari, Loco Driver and Suruchi Kumari, Assistant Loco Driver (Electric) have started working in Asansol division after completion of their training and clearing all competency tests successfully. Eastern Railway claimed it has added a new feather in its cap by engaging women as lady Loco Driver and Assistant Loco Driver in its Asansol division in the field of Electric locomotive operations and said that it marks a major step towards women empowerment.

"A large number of women employees in strategic positions are doing exceptionally well helping Railways in smooth operations with their dedicated services," ER, one of the country's busiest zonal railways said in a statement. These women are poised to play a significant role in Eastern railway which has set its priority on better passenger amenities and safety in operations of trains.
