Eastern Railway engages two women as Loco Driver and Assistant Loco Driver

KOLKATA: In a major step towards women's empowerment, Eastern Railway has engaged two women as Loco Driver and Assistant Loco Driver in Asansol division.

This is perhaps the first time that women are being appointed in the field of Electric locomotive operations.

Payel Mishra, Loco Pilot and Suruchi Kumari, Assistant Loco Pilot (Electric) are successfully working in Asansol division after completion of their training and sailing through all competency tests.


A statement issued by ER said both women have shown their competency in running engines of Goods Train vis-a-vis regular passenger trains independently and proved that ER’s Lady Pilots can run trains even better.
