DMRC's Phase-III to kick off next month
Delhi Metro will kick off its Phase-III project next month with the construction of a small network between Central Secretariat and Mandi House.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro will kick off its Phase-III project next month with the construction of a small network between Central Secretariat and Mandi House that will ease pressure on the busy Rajiv Chowk station.
Having sought special permission from the Urban Development Ministry for beginning work on this 3-km link, Delhi Metro will begin physical construction work in July and the corridor is likely to be completed in three years time.
"The contract for the project has already been awarded to Pratibha-CSRG JV and they have begun initial work on the line. We have started holding weekly meetings on the project," Kumar Keshav, Director (Projects), Delhi Metro, told PTI today.
He said the physical construction would begin next month and deployment of machine and manpower have already begun.
Delhi Metro issued tenders for the project in November well before the Phase-III, which envisages adding another 104-km to the Metro network in the capital, was cleared by the Urban Development Minister. The project is currently with GoM.
The new stations in Mandi House and Janpath will reduce pressure on the Rajiv Chowk station and will provide another station for commuters in the shopping hub of Connaught Place.
Keshav said the Delhi Metro is in talks with New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and other stakeholders for finalisation of traffic diversion and other things that have to be put in place before the actual work starts.
