DMRC unveils India's first standard gauge maintenance depot
The DMRC today unveiled the country's first standard gauge train depot that boasts of various facilities like state-of-the-art automatic train washing plant.
The depot, having a capacity to stable 90 coaches, will cater to inspection, maintenance, washing and administrative functioning of the Inderlok-Mundka line, to be thrown open to public next month.
"Area wise, it is the smallest metro depot, spreading across 10.83 hectares. But it has various facilities like workshop, inspection shed, stabling sheds and automatic train washing plant," Kumar Kesav, Director, Projects, told reporters.
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore, the depot has also a parking space for 1,000 cars, he said.
The automatic train washing plant, set up at an estimated cost of Rs four crore, is designed to carry out washing of the external body of DMRC trains.
"The washing brush is fit automatically to the shape of the train and the plant designed for cleaning units running at a speed of around 3 km/hr," said H S Anand, Director, Rolling stock.
Presently 17 standard gauge trains of four coaches each have already arrived in the depot. Initially 13 trains will be used in the Green Line (Inderlok-Mundka line).
