NEW DELHI: With an aim to make the journey convenient and safe, Delhi Metro will install 800 lifts and escalators in its ambitious Phase-III project that envisages connecting another 107 km of the capital.

The Delhi Metro operates 399 lifts and 490 escalators across its 140 stations, 8 depots and other installations.

"These lifts and escalators are regularly checked by a team of inspectors nominated by the government of National Capital Territory (GNCTD) of Delhi. To ease the process, DMRC is planning to evolve an automatic monitoring and rectification system in Phase III," a Delhi Metro spokesman said.

800 lifts and escalators will be installed at stations and other premises in its ambitious Phase-III project.

Approximately, 72 crore metro commuters use these lifts and escalators every year while journeying in Delhi Metro. On a daily basis, 12 lakh people use escalators while 3 lakh use lifts.
