DMRC becomes first Indian metro organisation to secure ISO 55001:2024 certification
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has become India’s first metro organisation to receive ISO 55001:2024 certification for its asset management system, covering Mumbai Metro Line-3. The certification marks DMRC’s shift towards risk-based, lifecycle-orie...
The certification marks a shift in DMRC’s approach from conventional maintenance practices towards a strategic, risk-based and lifecycle-oriented model that focuses on managing asset performance, risks, costs and long-term value.
DMRC is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the 33.5-km Mumbai Metro Line-3 corridor connecting Colaba, Bandra and SEEPZ. Its mandate covers a range of critical infrastructure and systems, including rolling stock, traction, signalling, telecommunications, stations, lifts, escalators, track and civil infrastructure.
DMRC said it secured the certification after strengthening its asset management framework, including its Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), aligning asset management objectives with organisational priorities, and improving risk assessment and lifecycle controls.
The organisation also undertook training and capacity-building programmes for personnel, while putting in place continuous monitoring through key performance indicators, audits and management reviews.
The certification is significant for DMRC as it comes at a time when the organisation is increasingly expanding its role beyond operating the Delhi Metro network. The Mumbai Metro Line-3 mandate demonstrates DMRC's growing presence in providing operations, maintenance and asset management expertise for urban rail projects outside the National Capital Region.
The latest certification could also help establish a benchmark for more structured and scientific lifecycle-based asset management across India's rapidly expanding urban rail sector, where metro operators are managing increasingly complex networks and large volumes of high-value infrastructure.
DMRC said the certification strengthens its focus on safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability, while reinforcing its capability to offer globally aligned metro operations and asset management practices across India.
The announcement two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphaised Delhi Metro's punctuality as a critical metric of governance quality.
He cited Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Rapid Rail and the Delhi Metro, both operating with an exceptional 99.9 percent on-time record, rivaling systems in New York, Hong Kong, and Paris.”This is not just the story of a Metro and Namo Rapid Rail running on time; this is the proud identity of an India rapidly changing with time,” he affirmed.
