Indian Railways is revamping its online ticket booking website by bringing a cleaner interface with “no unnecessary captchas, pop ups, and flashing graphics.” An official statement said the beta version of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) web page with no distracting elements is undergoing tests.

IRCTC is the front-end for accessing Indian Railways passenger reservation system, which powers various train booking apps.

The new website will offer seat availability being visible across all classes, and faster checkout through reduction in the number of steps to book. There will also be easier repeat bookings through saved passenger details.

“The revamped IRCTC website is currently being integrated with passenger reservation engine of Indian Railways,” the statement said, adding the fully functional new IRCTC portal will be “available in a few months.”

The four decades old passenger reservation system is also being revamped in parallel. “This required extensive work, because the system had to be operated throughout this journey of upgradation. We will launch the new Passenger Reservation engine very soon,” the statement added.
