DHR launches Gorkha cuisine in train
Passengers in the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR) will soon get special Gorkha cuisine and Gorkha dress in the train.
In an effort to attract tourist and help promote Gorkhan culture and heritage, the DHR has introduced the cuisine and dress in the train, DHR director Subrato Nath said.
The initiative was kick-started through Gorkha Bhansa Ghar, an authentic Gorkhan restaurant, at the Kurseong Railway Station.
The eatery will serve Gorkhan food like sekua, gundruk, kalo dal and keema-ko-jhol. Apart from food, it will also make available traditional dress items (chauban-di-cholo, daura-sural and Gorkha-topi) and musical instruments (sarangi, madal and machunga) while luring the tourists through exotic display of local folk songs and dances.
