Delhi train passengers, you can now leave your luggage behind: OTP-based digital lockers launched at major stations; check how to use them

Northern Railway has introduced a self-operated, OTP-based digital locker facility at four major railway stations in Delhi, offering passengers a secure and convenient way to store their luggage temporarily.

The facility is being introduced at New Delhi (NDLS), Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM), Delhi Junction (DLI) and Anand Vihar Terminal (ANVT). It is aimed at passengers who want to explore the city, wait between trains or travel without carrying heavy luggage.

Digital luggage lockers at Delhi railway stations: How it works

The digital lockers use an OTP-based access system, allowing passengers to deposit and retrieve their belongings without assistance from railway staff.

“The lockers use a digital, OTP-based access system, allowing passengers to deposit and retrieve their belongings securely without having to carry heavy luggage during their waiting period or visits outside the station,” Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, chief public relations officer, Northern Railway, said.

To use the facility, passengers need to enter their mobile number on the monitor panel installed near the lockers and verify it using the OTP received on their phone.

How to book a digital locker and store luggage

Once the mobile number has been verified, passengers can choose the locker size and duration based on their requirements.

“Once OTP verification is completed, the passenger can select the locker size and duration according to their requirements. After making the selection, the passenger can make the payment, place the luggage inside the locker and close it,” a railway official from the Delhi Division said.

Passengers can make payments through digital payment options, including Google Pay, Paytm and PhonePe, among other available modes.

How to collect luggage from the digital locker

Passengers can retrieve their belongings using the same registered mobile number.

“To collect the luggage, the passenger will have to enter the registered mobile number and verify it using the OTP. After verification, he or she can select the ‘Release’ option to open the locker and collect the luggage,” the railway official said.

Which Delhi railway stations have digital lockers?

The digital locker facility is operational at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations. Northern Railway said the facilities at Anand Vihar Terminal and Delhi Junction will become operational shortly.

At New Delhi Railway Station, the lockers are located in the Main Hall, near Platform No. 16 and below the digital display board.

At Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the facility is located near the main entrance gate, adjacent to the staircase.

Digital lockers available 24x7 at two stations

The facility is particularly aimed at tourists, passengers with long waiting periods between trains and those travelling with heavy luggage.

“The Digital Lockers are being provided at suitable locations, with due consideration to passenger convenience, accessibility, security and optimum utilisation of available space. The facility has been made operational at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations, while the facilities at Anand Vihar Terminal and Delhi Junction will be made operational shortly,” Upadhyay said.

The Digital Locker facility at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to station officials.
