Delhi Metro to put up platform screen doors after dragging incidents

Delhi Metro is planning to install platform screen doors at two busy stations in the capital to avoid their recurrence.

NEW DELHI: In the wake of incidents of people getting stuck in train doors, Delhi Metro is planning to install platform screen doors at two busy stations in the capital to avoid their recurrence.

Delhi Metro chief Mangu Singh said today that there are plans to install platform screen doors at Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate Metro stations which see a footfall of nearly eight lakh a day.

"Initially, we have plans to install such doors at two stations. We have been debating it for a long time. There are a number of issues that are involved in this. If we add one more element in the system, it has to synchronise," he told reporters here.

He said such doors have not been installed so far to keep things simpler.

On the January 17 incident where a man was dragged by a train, he said it appears to have occurred due to a "software problem."

"We have asked details from the rolling stock manufacturer. He is yet to give details. We will take action once it comes. It is an unfortunate incident," Singh said.
