Delhi Metro to observe 'Smart Card Week' from Jan 30
In an effort to promote use of travel smart cards, the Delhi Metro will observe 'Smart Card Week' from January 30 to February 5.
At the counters, a special team of customer relations assistants will brief and guide the passengers on smart cards, a special ticket used for multiple journeys based on value available on it.
"Commuters will be encouraged to use smart cards to save time instead of standing in long queues to purchase tokens, to avail 10 per cent discount on every journey and for freedom of choice of originating and destination stations," Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement today.
Similarly, tourists travelling by the Metro will be explained the concept of ' Tourist Smart Card' for unlimited rides for a single day and three-day period, it said.
The counters will be set up in 20 Metro stations which have the highest footfalls, including Chandni Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Karol Bagh, Pragati Maidan, Uttam Nagar East, Saket, Noida City Centre and Kashmere Gate stations, among others.
The theme of the week will be 'Be SMART, Travel SMART, Use SMART CARD'.
Delhi Metro will also rope in FM radio channels during the week to highlight the benefit of using smart cards.
Presently, about 65 per cent of Metro commuters use smart cards every day, with about 12,000 such tickets being sold each day, the DMRC said.
