Delhi Metro services could face restrictions at 57 stations from 9 pm on October 9 as police have asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare for possible disruptions ahead of planned protests in the national capital on October 10. In a letter, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, asked DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar to consider reducing the frequency of trains passing through the listed stations and closing their entry and exit gates. The proposed restrictions would continue on October 10 until the situation returns to normal. The advisory cites planned protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in New Delhi district, along with the possibility of unruly crowds moving towards sensitive locations.

Why could Delhi Metro stations face restrictions on October 9 and 10?

The proposed measures are linked to protests planned in the capital on October 10. Police have expressed concerns about the possibility of crowd movement towards sensitive locations, prompting the request for preventive arrangements at Metro stations.

According to the letter issued by the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, the restrictions could begin at 9 pm on October 9 and remain in force on October 10 until the situation normalises.

The measures proposed include reducing the frequency of trains passing through the listed stations and closing their entry and exit gates. The actual restrictions and their duration would depend on the situation and the directions implemented by DMRC.
