Delhi Metro may shut gates at 57 stations due to protests; Railways cancels trains to NDLS and Hazrat Nizamuddin

Delhi Police has directed DMRC to reduce train frequency and close gates at 57 metro stations from 9 pm on October 9 until the situation normalises on October 10, citing proposed protests and potential crowd movement near sensitive areas.

Delhi Police on Friday asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to reduce train frequency and close entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations from 9 pm on October 9 until the situation normalises on October 10, citing proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations and the possibility of unruly crowds moving towards sensitive areas.

The stations include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, ITO, Patel Chowk and Supreme Court, among others. The advisory also covers stations across multiple metro lines, including Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia Millia Islamia and Sarai Kale Khan–Nizamuddin. The restrictions will remain in place until the situation normalises, according to the police letter dated October 8.

The CJP has announced a youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 over alleged "vote theft".

Indian Railways cancel trains

Earlier today, Indian Railways has ordered the cancellation of all Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10, citing the possibility of severe road traffic congestion around the two stations.

The order, issued by the railway department's coaching directorate, said the decision was taken in view of anticipated severe traffic congestion in the areas surrounding the two stations.

Meanwhile CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke alleged that several activists had been detained ahead of the protest, but vowed to continue the march.

"Thousands of youngsters have been detained across country by the BJP Govt ahead of our October 10 protest. This intimidation is not going to work, Modi. The youth of this country are no longer scared of you. I’ll be landing in Delhi tomorrow and will march to Jantar Mantar, come what may," he posted on X.
