Delhi Metro flags off trial run on Phase III

DMRC Monday flagged off the trial run on the first section of the Phase III route between Central Secretariat and Mandi House stations.

NEW DELHI: Trial runs on the first section of Delhi Metro's phase III from Central Secretariat to Mandi House commenced today.

The first train for the trial runs on this section was flagged off from Central Secretariat Metro station by Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development and DMRC Chairman Sudhir Krishna and Managing Director, DMRC, Mangu Singh, in the presence of other senior officials.

The trial runs on this section are expected to continue for a couple of months.

"Mandi House will serve as an additional interchange that will decongest Rajiv Chowk. Pressure on Rajiv Chowk station will be eased," Mangu Singh said.

"Phase III work is progressing well. 10 TBMs are working right now and another 12 will be operational in the next few months. We plan to open the next corridor in Faridabad extension," he added.

Construction work for this 3-km underground section, which is part of the Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate metro line, began on May 11 and is expected to be opened for commuter by the end of March 2014.
