Chennai-Coimbatore Duronto Express withdrawn due to poor patronage: Southern Railway

Southern Railway has withdrawn the services of Chennai-Coimbatore Duronto Express and will introduce Chennai Central-Coimbatore Shatabdi Expres.

CHENNAI: Due to poor patronage, Southern Railway has withdrawn the services of Chennai-Coimbatore Duronto Express and will introduce Chennai Central-Coimbatore Shatabdi Express from November 22.

The Chennai Central -- Coimbatore "Shatabdi Express" will leave Chennai Central at 7.15am and arrive Coimbatore at 14.05 hours. On the return journey, Coimbatore-Chennai Central "Shatabdi Express" will leave Coimbatore at 15.20 hours and arrive Chennai Central at 22.15 hours, Southern Railway said in a statement.

The trains will be stopping at Salem, Erode and Tirupur respectively, it said.

Similarly, Southern Railway has revised the Chennai Central - Thiruvananthapuram (Biweekly) "Duronto Express" as "AC Superfast Express", with fares equal to "Rajdhani Express", to be effective from November 22.

The Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram AC Superfast (Bi-weekly) will leave Chennai Central at 16.30hours and arrive Thiruvananthapuram at 05.45hours next day, it said.

On the return direction, Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Central AC Superfast Express will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 21.30 hours and arrive at Chennai Central at 10.30 hours next day.

The trains will stop at Ernakulam and Kollam on both the directions, it said.

"There will be no change in the composition of both the trains and in the days of service", the statement added.
