Centre revises cost of 993 road and 190 railway projects

The centre revised cost estimates of 993 road and 190 railway projects according to official data shared Tuesday. These are among the 1,775 ongoing infrastructure projects (worth Rs 150 crore and above) being monitored by the centre as on July 2026-end. An official statement said the total revised cost is Rs 37.11 lakh crore of projects spread across 17 union ministries and departments.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways accounts for the highest number of projects, with 993 projects, and a share of total revised project cost of Rs 9.62 lakh crore. Railways Ministry is implementing 190 projects with a total revised project cost of ₹6.38 lakh crore, the statement said.

The cumulative expenditure incurred on these projects stands at Rs 19.26 lakh crore, accounting for approximately 51.91 per cent of the revised project cost, the statement said, adding this indicated steady progress in project implementation.


“A significant proportion of projects are at advanced stages, with 675 projects achieving over 80% physical progress, while 305 have crossed 80% financial completion,” the statement said.

The transport and logistics sector accounts for the highest number of ongoing projects (1246 projects), with revised estimates of Rs 19.81 lakh crore underscoring priority to connectivity-driven infrastructure growth.

These ongoing infrastructure projects include 735 mega projects (project cost of Rs 1,000 crore and above) with an original cost of Rs 28.77 lakh crore, and 1,040 major projects (project cost below Rs 1,000 crore and up to Rs 150 crore) amounting to Rs 4.93 lakh crore.
