Vellore: The Railways would launch a campaign to create awanress among 10 lakh people in Tamil Nadu about the benefits of the 'Red Ribbon Express', according to union minister of state for Railways R Velu.

The aim of personnel on board this 'exhibition train' is to explain details of HIV treatment, methods of protection and prevention, he said.

Velu pointed out that 2.47 lakh of the 26 lakh HIV affected people in India are in Tamil Nadu. The state ranks fourth behind Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka in number of HIV patients, he said.

He claimed that nations like Malaysia and Thailand had sent medical teams to Tamil Nadu To learn about the steps taken by the state to control the disease.

The Red Ribbon express, with seven bogies will touch 180 railway stations in India and travel over 70,000 km. it has so far traversed six states

The train made its maiden visit to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
