The creation of the South Coast Railway Zone is in line with the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act and fulfills the commitment made by the Parliament. The establishment of this zone will streamline railway operations, improve service delivery, and bolster regional connectivity.
"The Cabinet has approved the South Coast Railway Zone. This was announced by PM Modi during his visit to Visakhapatnam... Besides, Rayagada division has been created in the East Coast Railway Zone," said the union minister.
In addition to the approval of the South Coast Railway Zone, the Cabinet also announced the formation of a new railway division under the East Coast Railway, the Rayagada Railway Division. This new division is expected to improve rail services and operational management in the area.
Furthermore, the Waltair division, which was historically known by its colonial name, has now been renamed as the Vishakhapatnam Railway Division. This change reflects the modernization efforts and marks a departure from colonial-era naming conventions.
