"The Sardar Patel Sports Enclave being built for the Commonwealth Games will get connectivity to the airport through this metro,” Union Information Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told journalists after the cabinet meeting, adding this project will be completed in four years.
The Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2A will generate employment of around 2,000 persons during the peak period of construction activity and 500 persons are likely to work during Operation and Maintenance of the system, the statement added.
Length of India’s operational metro network surpassed 1,100 km this year, up from 248 km in 2014. This is supplemented by 12 metro projects worth Rs 1.46 lakh crore approved by the cabinet under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) 3.0 that took charge in 2024. Delhi has India's longest metro network with roughly 416 km currently operating.
