Bullet train girder launched in Maharashtra, heaviest ever in India's construction sector: NHSRCL
In a significant milestone for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, the first 40-meter full span pre-stressed concrete box girder has been successfully launched in Maharashtra. Weighing 970 metric tonnes, it's the heaviest girder used in Ind...
The girder, at 970 metric tonnes, is the heaviest ever used in the country's construction sector, a NHSRCL release said.
"The launch of the girder took place at Sakhare village in Dahanu. It is cast as a single, monolithic unit, free of construction joints, using 390 cubic meters of concrete and 42 metric tonnes of steel. The use of full-span girders allows construction to progress up to 10 times faster compared to conventional segmental methods," it added.
To support rapid construction, NHSRCL is deploying specialized indigenous heavy machinery such as straddle carriers, bridge launching gantries as well as girder transporters, it added.
