Blue Dart will be using Delhi Metro to transport cargo, through trains within the national capital, during non-peak hours. An official statement said this is the first of its kind arrangement in the entire South Asia Pacific region. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said Blue Dart will utilise available capacity to ensure faster and more reliable movement of time-sensitive shipments.

This reduces dependency on road transport, thereby easing congestion and curbing vehicular emissions, DMRC said.

Metro systems around the world are increasingly exploring ways to utilize spare capacity to generate revenue while promoting sustainability. The Madrid Metro has initiated a similar pilot project in collaboration with logistic partners to transport parcels through metro trains.

DMRC said it is actively engaging with Madrid Metro to exchange insights and best practices in urban freight transportation. As part of its long-term vision, DMRC plans to expand this cargo network to additional metro stations, setting new benchmarks in sustainable and seamless freight transportation.
