'Mumbai's civic body and the Railways to ensure that they did not affect each other's projects from being completed on time.
"Co-ordination should be such that Railway authorities could speak to municipal corporation and the state government in order to obtain and provide clearances for projects to ensure that they are not delayed," Rathwa said.
He was speaking after inaugurating a new platform at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in suburban Kurla.
The minister also laid the foundation stone for the new station building at the terminus, which with more comforts for passengers and many new features, is expected to be ready in approximately 18 months.
He asked Railway authorities to ensure all works that were promised were completed within the shortest possible time.
"There is also a big difference between the Railways stations in (neighbouring) Navi Mumbai and the city," Rathwa said, adding a sense of cleanliness should be inculcated in passengers to prevent them from dirtying railway premises.
He promised to look into the creation of a terminus between the suburbs of Virar and Vasai on the Western Railway in the adjoining Thane district.
After completion of the proposed Western Freight Corridor between Mumbai and New Delhi, the number of passenger services could be increased in the future, Rathwa noted.
