According to a Times of India report, South Western Railway (SWR), Southern Railway, and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) have jointly submitted a proposal to the Railway Board earlier this month to introduce the premium train between Yesvantpur in Bengaluru and Madgaon in Goa.
Bengaluru–Goa Vande Bharat Route & Timings
As per the proposed plan, the train will operate six days a week, departing Yesvantpur at 6.05 am and reaching Madgaon at around 7.15 pm, taking approximately 13 hours and 10 minutes to complete the journey. The train is expected to halt at four intermediate stations — Hassan, Sakleshpur, Subrahmanya Road, and Padil.
Currently, the Yesvantpur–Vasco da Gama Express covers the roughly 700 km route in about 13.5 to 15 hours, depending on the service. While the Vande Bharat is expected to slightly reduce travel time, it may still fall short of expectations given its much higher speed capability.
Railway officials noted that although KSR Bengaluru is the city’s main terminal, Yesvantpur has been chosen due to limited maintenance availability at KSR Bengaluru.
Given the long distance between the two endpoints, officials said two Vande Bharat trainsets would be required to maintain regular operations.
Bengaluru–Goa Vande Bharat Speed
Despite being designed for speeds of over 160 kmph, the train is expected to average below 50 kmph overall on this route. In the challenging Western Ghats sections, speeds could drop to as low as 30 kmph due to sharp curves, gradients, and safety restrictions.Under the tentative timetable, the Yesvantpur–Madgaon service would leave Yesvantpur at 6.05 am, reach Padil by 2 pm, and arrive in Madgaon at 7.15 pm. On the return journey, the train would depart Madgaon at 5.30 am, reach Padil at 11 am, and arrive back in Yesvantpur at 6.40 pm.
However, the Railway Board has suggested reviewing the departure timing and recommended starting the service after 6.30 am. The final schedule and launch timeline are yet to be confirmed.
