The latest contract adds to BEML’s growing involvement in the Vande Bharat programme, as Indian Railways expands the next generation of the semi-high-speed train network beyond the existing chair-car configuration.
The sleeper version of Vande Bharat is being developed for longer-distance journeys, with the trains designed to combine the speed and modern features of the Vande Bharat platform with overnight travel.
The Rs 180.60 crore order is specifically for the manufacturing and supply of Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets and has been placed by ICF, one of Indian Railways’ major production units.
BEML, a public-sector engineering company under the Ministry of Defence, manufactures a range of products spanning defence equipment, rail and metro coaches, and heavy engineering machinery.
